Books and Movies

Hello!

Well, it's about that time of year when we all review the past year and look forward to the next with little goals and big aspirations. One of the things I would like to improve upon is the number of books I read! It seems like I'm reading all day, but I suppose blogs, emails and facebook aren't the same thing as reading an actual book?! Anyway, I hope to read more books in 2012! And, since I've decided to blog about books, it seems like the right time to try out my Amazon affiliate links now that I've signed up as an associate... one step closer to monetizing my blog? I hope so! The added income would sure be nice.

The Kindle
Last year we bought our oldest daughter an e-reader for Christmas. Unfortunately, she really didn't use it all that much. She's an avid reader, but found out that she really prefers "real" books. However, it wasn't a total fail because I love reading books on her e-reader!
Books read in 2011
17 Day Diet - it works really well -
when you stick to it!
The Notebook
Mennonite Girls Can Cook
The Pioneer Woman Cooks
Water for Elephants

The Hunger Games Trilogy

(part of) The Bible

E-books and e-patterns used in 2011

16 patterns are only $3 each!!

Movies watched in 2011
Unknown
The Adjustment Bureau
The Help

Limitless

The Smurfs

Cowboys vs. Aliens
Brides Maids

Books I'd like to read in 2012

Grace for the Good Girl
One Thousand Gifts

The Pioneer Woman's
new cookbook!
(more of) The Bible
Movies I'd like to watch in 2012

Water for Elephants
I liked the book, except for a couple gross parts.
I heard the movie is better.

As you can see, I need to add to my list of books I'd like to read next year! What would you recommend? Next I'm going to browse the book linky party over at The Nesting Place to get some reading recommendations! I might as well link up while I'm there, too. :)

I hope you'll have a wonderful, safe and happy New Year's Eve!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

We are so happy to have my parents, my sister and my niece here to spend Christmas with us!

I hope you'll have a wonderful day tomorrow with the ones you love celebrating the birth of our Saviour... and also enjoying some good food and nice gifts!

I can't wait to see the kids open their stockings!

Crochet a Granny Square Headband

Here's a sweet granny square headband "sleeve" I crocheted for my daughter.
I used sock wool and a 3.25 mm crochet hook to make 3 granny squares, then I crocheted them together.
I then crocheted a back piece in double crochet to create a sleeve for the plastic headband to be slipped through.

I'm tossing around ideas for handmade items to sell in my {currently empty} Etsy shop and in our upcoming Spring Vintage and Handmade Market. Although I think this is super cute and granny squares seem to be cropping up everywhere these days, this took way too long to think about making multiples of them to sell. Unless, of course, they were very high priced and then it would be totally worth it. lol

Do you buy handmade items online at all?

DIY :: Cinnamon and Cranberry Candles

Merry Christmas! Only a few days to go now. How ready are you? We just got back from spending a couple relaxing days with my Mom, sister and niece. Now that we are home I'm starting to feel the crunch, but trying not to fret! I have a very detailed list of what still needs to be done and even though it's quite a long list, it's still very do-able, and I have my willing helpers, so that's good! How about you?

Here's yet another Pinterest inspired idea with a few of my step-by-step pics for you.

Candles, cranberries, elastics, needle and thread, drop cloth scraps.

Put an elastic on a candle.

Slip cinnamon sticks under elastic.

It works best if candle is laying down.

Wrap with torn strip of drop cloth. Burlap would also look nice and rustic.

Wrap the drop cloth around a couple times and tie in a knot.

Nestle candle(s) in a bed of fresh cranberries on a silver platter or pretty plate.
Make a mini cranberry garland using a needle and thread to wrap around another candle.
Tie a piece of red and white twin around another candle to finish it off!

I'd love to know what you think of my new blog design! Kristi from Creative Kristi Designs gave my blog a complete a makeover recently. I especially like my new header. It's very fun, don't you think?! Earlier in the fall I had participated in a wonderful {free} class that Kristi offered to 9 lucky bloggers. I learned so much during from those classes about blogging!
