{ the freedom of not using a pattern }

Hello and Happy {Canadian} Thanksgiving!

I've been having so much fun over the last few days reviewing the new Laura Ashley computerized sewing machine for Brother. Here's the project I've been working on. I completed the hourglass blocks using the method I showed you in my previous post and have them all pressed and ready to go.

Now it's decision time! Part of the fun of not using a pattern is being able to arrange and re-arrange your blocks until they look just right. I like this first layout because it looks like squares en point without all the effort usually involved in getting that look! Ooops... too many (or not enough) blocks for this layout.

I could take the extra 4 blocks and put them into the back of the quilt.

This next layout usesll of the blocks and looks a little more random, but if you look closely, there is still a pattern there.

I am still a little undecided about the future of this quilt. If I use all of the blocks it will be the wrong size & shape for my dining room table. I was thinking of dividing the blocks into two long & skinny table runners; one to keep and one to give away.

What would you do?

  1. I love these fabrics! I guess that's why I am using them TOO! (as you already commented) And there is always something special about triangles... I think I have another pack of these, so tomorrow the pieces that I have left are perhaps going to become something of daily use... to go with the mystery table runner.

  2. I like the bottom one the best.
