Bags :: Sewing Night at Sarah's

(photo stolen from Sarah's blog)

Hello,

Wow, it's been a busy/fun weekend around here! On Friday evening Sarah invited a group of friends over to sew the night away. We all worked on different bags. While we were sewing , we came up with the great idea to start a Facebook group called Bag Ladies Strike Again. It's an open group and you are more than welcome to join!! I hope to see you there. We'll be sharing links to free online bag and other sewing and quilting patterns as well as our favorite recipes, etc. Should be lots of fun!!

So, come join the fun by joining our Facebook group!! Hope to see you there.

Bags :: A Houndstooth Messenger Bag

Hello,

Today was fairly productive. I finished 3 bags that I had previously started, scrubbed the basement suite to within an inch of its life (now we just need to find a tenant for it!), picked up a mitre saw from someone on freecycle. woohoo Oh, and I made an adorable skirt using a free pattern from Oliver + S for a sweet little 9 year old.

Have a wonderful week! We are enjoying the last 2 weeks of summer holidays and not really looking forward to the whole back to school routine. What about you?

Bags :: Mini 4 Patch Bag

She doesn't know it yet, but Rhonda and I have started a quarterly tradition. The day the latest Quilts and More magazine arrives at Safeway, Rhonda will come over for an all night sewing session and we will make one of the projects from the magazine. Last night we did just that!

This Swing Bag pattern caught my eye so we both decided to make it. Little did we know (for lack of pre-reading the instructions) that the bag is actually quite small. The picture of it in the magazine was very deceiving since either the model is child size or they made their magazine sample a lot larger that the instructions say. Anyway, it's an adorable bag even if it's only 9" x 10". I love that there's only one strap. The bag is fully lined with dark brown fabric... the same fabric I used for the strap. It is interlined with batting to give the bag some shape.

Now my task is to tweak this pattern to make the bag about double that size, box the bottom, and have it so the turning hole (or whatever you call it) is inside the lining rather than right at the top of the bag.

{ binder for hire }

Happy Friday!

I have come to really love binding quilts! As I was binding this one yesterday I was thinking I'd love to offer my binding services to other quilters.

If you happen to love making quilts, but detest the binding step, please let me do that step for you! All you'd need to do is send me your quilted, trimmed quilt top and your binding fabric. I will prepare and attach the binding for you and send back your totally finished quilt. If this is something that interests you, just drop me an email and let me know the measurements of your quilt and when you'd need it done by. I will get back to you with a price.

I have bound many quilts, including several for customers. I bind quilts using the Heather Bailey method. It gives a really neat, tidy and secure finish to your quilt.

Have a great weekend!

-Cindy

Bags :: Ikea Bag with Fashion Handles

Good Morning!

I hope you're not getting sick of seeing all the stuff I've been making. I seem to be on a roll lately, especially with bags. I just love making them so much! This one is no exception. The fabric is from Ikea and it's a heavier weight than regular quilting cotton. It's lined with regular grey cotton and has 2 interior pockets. There's no closure on this bag. I think the black fashion handles finish it off quite nicely. This one is a larger version of the last couple of bags I've made.

Happy Sunday!

Bags :: Cute Pleated Purse with Ric Rac Trim

Good Morning!

It pays to get up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday... it makes your weekend seem that much longer. Although, lately every day seems like the weekend to me. This morning I was up at 6:00 and had this bag all done by around 8:30. Isn't it cute? I love that touch of ric rac! This bag has a velcro closure (I need to get some more magnetic snaps. I love those things!)

I hope you have a fun and crafty weekend!

Bags :: Pleated Paisley Purse

Pretty fabric, a couple of vintage-ish buttons, a pattern I've been dying to try, and nobody home, but me.
Pleats! I haven't done pleats for ages (maybe never?). I think I may have done them on some little dresses back in the day.
et Voila - an adorable little pleated bag! I still haven't decided where to put the buttons. Maybe I'll leave them off.

Here's a better pic of my lovely new {old} china cabinet that I mentioned yesterday. One day I will fold all of my fabric and put it in neat little stacks, but for now it does the job!

Bags :: Large Black and White Book Bag

Hello!

How are you doing on this fine, drizzly day? Or is it blasting hot where you are? I don't mind the rain, but it could have come on a different day. neutral The girls wanted to go to the water slides today with their cousin. Oh well, at least the rain inspires me to get a little creative in the kitchen and the sewing room. I made BBQ Chicken Pizza (pics and recipe to follow if it turns out to be bloggable!) for supper and then whipped up this handy book bag for Nancy for her birthday.

See the china cabinet the bag is hanging on? This is my latest Craigslist find! I picked it up a few days ago for $50. The guy I bought it from said it was 35 years old, but I think it's older. It doesn't really have that 1970's look.

So, what are you up to today?

{ chocolate sheet cake }

Hello,

Ever since I saw this recipe on The Pioneer Woman blog, I knew I had to make it! I finally got around to it a few days ago. mmm... is it ever good! As I was making it I kept thinking how is this any different than a brownie? But it's really not like a brownie at all! It's pure cakey goodness. I'll definitely be making this again!

Chocolate Sheet Cake Recipe... on one of my favorite blogs.

Have you joined Tasty Kitchen yet? It's an offshoot of The Pioneer Woman. There are thousands of awesome, tried and true, printable recipes. Feel free to add me as a Tasty Kitchen friend! Here's my profile.
