{ flower garden }

In case you haven't noticed, I love to start projects! Here's another little something that I started working on last night. I've got all the flowers cut out. They are backed with Steam 2 Seam fusible web. I'm following the tutorial/pattern that I mentioned yesterday. There's also a super cute rocket pillow that I plan to make for a super cute little boy.

Do you start new projects when you already have ten or so on the go, or is it just me? The funny thing is I don't even feel guilty about constantly starting things. It's a hobby and meant to be fun, so if I feel like setting aside my Winter Wonderland quilt for another 8 months while I play with whimsical flower garden pillows and pretty Moda layer cakes, then I will happily do that.

Bags :: Disappearing 9 Patch Tote for Clare

Hi!
This is a nice roomy little tote bag that took forever to make. (not really) ;-) Over a year ago I made a "Disappearing 9 Patch" baby quilt top and then folded it neatly away in my cupboard and forgot about it. Last night I was in the mood for making a bag so I pulled out that patchwork and made it into this cutie.

The handles are made with Stampin' Up! grosgrain ribbon.

The cute little buttons came from a nice chick on freecycle. I attached them with DMC 321 embroidery floss. The bag is fully lined... the inside is just like the outside.

Tonight I am starting on a Garden Flower Pillow using this wonderful tutorial. Isn't it adorable?! What are you working on today?

{ punch needle embroidery }

Hello,

Yesterday my girls were home sick with colds/flu so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get them started on some Punch Needle Embroidery projects. When Madelyn was over a few weeks ago she brought her PNE and taught us how to do it. Thanks, Madelyn, it's been a lot of fun trying something new! The girls are really enjoying it, especially Rachie.

It snowed again here today... yay and yuck. Yay because it's so pretty and yuck because I had to slide all over the roads to get to work this morning. I survived the drive, though. woohoo. (If you were the idiot who turned left in front of me when I had a green light, sorry for honking. Just kidding - I'm not sorry at all! Next time it snows let me know if you'll be driving so I can stay home.)

{ brownie pudding }

Brownie Pudding

In an 8" square baking pan mix:

1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp cocoa
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Add the following & stir:

1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp cooking oil
1 tsp vanilla

In a 2 cup glass measuring cup measure & stir:

1 1/2 cups boiling water
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa

Pour over mixture in the pan. Do not stir. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Serve warm. There will be a delicious chocolatey pudding hiding under the brownie layer. Yum!

This is what I made for dessert tonight to celebrate that the girls cleaned their rooms! mrgreen

You should make this... it's really good and would be even better with a little scoop of french vanilla ice cream on top.

{ a stitchery contest }

Hello,

Wow, it is so beautiful out here today! The sun is just blasting in my windows... windows that yesterday I thought were clean and now realize they are definitely not! Oh well, the sun is very nice even if it does make me realize I need to wash windows and dust.

In Crabapple Hill Studio's December newsletter they announced a Winter Contest. To enter the contest you had to embroider the above design (it's a free download), make it into a completed project and email them a photo of the project. The first person to email their entry today won a box of stitchin' goodies! Well, I stayed up 'til midnight last night to push the send button on my entry email... and what do you know, I was one of the first 4 people to enter so we're all receiving a prize. Isn't that nice?!

I love Crabapple Hill Studio!

Later today you should be able to see the other entries on the Knot-y Girl's Stitchery Club Blog.

Have a nice weekend,

Cindy

{ snow day }

Hello,

Today was supposed to be the day to go back to work and school after the Christmas holiday, but alas we got so much snow last night that everything is closed. Thankfully I was able to do some work from home, which was really nice. The girls spent a couple hours building an igloo out in the wet snow while I was warm and cozy inside working on these appliqued snowflakes! These will become a cute little wall hanging (hopefully sooner than later).

My husband seems to have taken up a new hobby... baking! His latest creation was delicious cinnamon buns.

My girls spent part of their snow day having lots of fun baking sugar cookies.

The other day my girls and husband had a great time at a nearby farm. You can see the beautiful photos here on Madelyn's blog.

Happy Snow Day!

{ jan 3 }

Hello,

Here's what I was hinting at yesterday... my Dad made me this amazing quilt display rack. Isn't it lovely?! I think so. smile

{ jan 2 }

So, here is the kitchen quilt I was telling you about yesterday. It's quilted, bound & hung! I based this quilt on a pattern from This and That Patterns called Pickin Wildflowers. However, I wanted my quilt to be a lot larger than the pattern so I came up with the brilliant idea of just doubling the size of each cut piece. It didn't exactly work as planned so I had to fiddle-fart around with it by trimming extra bits off here and there to get it to all fit together. In the end I think it came out quite nicely, though!
Here's a close up of my FMQ (free motion quilting). The fabric is Blossom by Moda.
The pie is apple, by Scott.
That's all for today. I hope you have a nice weekend! Check back tomorrow because I will be showing you the beautiful ________ my Dad made me! If you are a quilter you will be jealous for sure.

{ jan 1 }

Hello!

Well, I've had a very productive January 1... once I finally and fully woke up at around 3:30 this afternoon (diet coke did the trick). I guess I'm not used to staying up that late, but it was fun! Today I completed putting together a quilt top for a wall hanging that will go in my kitchen... and then I machine quilted it with free motion stipples. The binding is all made and ready to attach. However, when I should have been sewing I was on the blog instead, adding all of those hopefully-not-so-annoying ads! Please feel free to click on them LOL. I earn a few cents per click. Woopty-doo, but it all adds up. mrgreen

I'll be back tomorrow with pics of my beautiful quilt once it's completed and hanging on my apple green kitchen wall. I hope you've had a good start to 2009.

Oh, in case you missed it, a few days ago I posted a handbag giveaway... scroll down to enter! And please read the post fully or you may miss something important. Thanks! Oh, and, Rhonda is also giving something away!

Here's one of those pesky little ads I was telling you about...
