{ ginger blossoms }

So, my husband and I have been busily working away setting up a hair salon for me in the garage. It's going well, although a little slower than I would like! I want it done yesterday. mrgreen We're hoping Tangles Hair Design will be open for business by July, but a lot of work needs to be completed still... so we will see.

What you see here is the beginning of a quilt I am working on. It's a Friendship Braid Quilt that will adorn a wall in the hair salon. This cute fabric is a line called Ginger Blossom by Sandi Henderson for Michael Miller.

What are your plans for this week? I'll be painting & re-upholstering, bike riding and going to work. (plus all the usual: driving kids back and forth, cooking, cleaning, and if the family is lucky - laundry)

{ old red barn co. sew-along week 2 }

Ok, I am all caught up on Old Red Barn Co.'s sew-along! I now have 84 2.5"x44" strips cut and ready to go! I can't wait to see what the next step is.

{ sew-along }

I've decided to participate in Old Red Barn Co.'s Sew-Along. The first step was to choose 12 fabrics in 1/2 yard cuts. I happened to have this perfectly folded collection of April Cornell's Sonnet Collection by Moda in my fabric cupboard. While I hated to unfold it, it does feel good that I'm finally going to use it after hoarding it for nearly a year! I purchased this fabric for an amazing price last summer in Ontario when I went there to visit a dear friend. There's a meter or more of each of these fabrics, so thankfully I will still have lots left over once the Sew-Along is finished.

I am now in the midst of cutting up this gorgeous fabric into 2.5" strips. I'll have a pic of that step soon.

So, is anyone else joining this Sew-Along? There are some great prizes along the way and one very grand prize at the end!

{ habit }

It seems that I've developed a fun Saturday habit... garage sale-ing! Today the girls and I were up at the crack of dawn and out the door to hit the streets in search of - who knows what! We made the rounds to a couple of huge sales in churches, a stolen bike auction, and a few regular house garage sales. I got this perfect kitchen table from just down the street. So far I am loving it in the kitchen. Our old table was 48" in diameter so it made it just a little toooo cozy! This one is only 28" across and it fits nicely with the 4 chairs I got at the city wide garage sale a couple weeks ago. The plant pot thingy is something I picked up at a garage sale a couple weeks ago as well. And the quilt table runner was one I made for my kitchen wall. Now I have a naked wall, but it looks great on the table!

I also got some great deals on some fantastic stuff for Tangles Hair Design!! (the salon I am opening) I got a bathroom sink with taps for $7, an antique-ish cabinet with chicken wire in the doors - so cute! A sander for $5 so I can re-finish some furniture. 2, yes TWO antique sewing machines for $25!

In between all that hunting, Mom treated us to a lovely lunch.

It's been a good day. :)

How did you spend your Saturday?

{ city wide }

At work on Friday Rhonda was reading the paper (it was lunch time so it's all good, lol) and she announced that there was a city wide garage sale on Saturday. Woohoo!! So, today I was up, dressed and ready to go by 7:00 am. It was a great day for garage sale-ing, let me tell you! It was a perfectly sunny day and there were over 300 garage sales in town. W O W !
So, what did I get? These 4 gorgeous chairs for the kitchen at $12 a piece. I love that they don't match! Also, I got a shampoo bowl for my (future) hair salon!! So exciting! ... guess how much that was ... ok I'll tell you. I paid $25 for it!

Happy Mother's Day!

{ surprise! }

Today I was the lucky recipient of a surprise birthday party lunch at a cozy little tea house... and I was surprised!

Rhonda had invited me out for lunch, but when we got there she suggested we sit at this table for 6... with a high chair, and I still didn't clue in until I saw Jill walk in and then Madelyn with baby Andrew. Still there were two empty seats. Who else was coming? Sarah and Andrea... all the way from Abbotsford! Thanks you guys! You totally made my birthday special. It was so nice to see all of you! And the tea, lunch and dessert were deeeeelish.

mmm lemon cream dessert. I need this recipe!
I love that tea pot! If I ever find one like it I will buy it for sure.
I had the cranberry orange tea. It's so good!

Andrew, little cutie.
