{ snowmen aren't just for christmas }

Hello,

According to my friend, Rhonda, snowmen aren't just for Christmas. In fact, she doesn't bring out her snowman collection until after Christmas. So, here is a non-Christmas snowman quilt that I made over the last couple of days. It will hang on my wall until I get sick of looking at it or when spring arrives, whichever comes first. What about you? Do you think snowmen are Christmasy or just wintery?

Here's a close up of my machine quilting. I used variegated Aurifil thread. Around the star I used a 1/4" foot and the built in walking foot and for the loopty loops I used a darning foot with lowered feed dogs. My quilting is far from perfect, but I am happy with how it has improved over the past year.

Goodbye 2008 - Hello 2009! To celebrate the New Year I've decided to participate in the Whirl into Winter Give Away. I will be giving away this gorgeous bag that I made. For this bag I used an Amy Butler pattern and Moda Blossom fabric. The yo-yos were hand made by my 11 year old daughter.
To enter my give away please leave a comment on this post starting on January 1, 2009. Any comments made before then will be deleted. In your comment please tell me at least one thing you would like to do in 2009. It doesn't have to be some grand goal or resolution... just something you would like to do. One thing I would like to do is put a mitered border on a quilt. See what I mean? Just a simple thing. :-)

For an additional entry you can post a link to this post on your blog and then leave another comment here with a link to your blog.

On January 15, 2009 a winner will be randomly chosen. Everyone is eligible to enter, but please enter only once. Be sure to leave your email address in the comment so I can contact you if you've won.

Happy New Year!

Hello,

Even though I am officially a non-stamper, Nancy has decided to keep me as a friend. Wasn't that nice of her?! LOL wink Here's the adorable Christmas card she sent me. I just love it! The girls had a good laugh over the cute snowman snowball fight. Thanks Nancy!

So, be warned; if you send me a hand-stamped Christmas card, I will blog it, adore it and appreciate it and I may even miss stamping, but that's ok!

I hope your holiday preparations are coming along nicely and you're able to relax and enjoy the season. Today is my last day at work for 2008 and I know I will miss it, but it'll also be wonderful to spend lots and lots of time with family. I can't wait to see my sisters, niece and nephew! Good times.

{ my daughter, the pastry chef }

Hello,

My amazing 11 year old made this beautiful cake all by herself. It tastes even better than it looks! She used this Chocolate Candy Cane Cake recipe from Kraft Foods.

As promised, here is a pic of the tree skirt I made under the tree. No, I didn't make it under the tree. I made it on my sewing machine and then put it under the tree. mrgreen

Today I'm home with a little one who is not feeling well. Poor sweet girl. I hope she's well enough for her concert tomorrow!

Look what arrived in my mailbox today! This stunning card came from Nancy's mom, Bev. Isn't it beautiful?! Thank you, Bev!

{ quilted tree skirt }

Hello!

I guess it's about time I posted something a little creative on this blog! This is a quilted Christmas tree skirt that I designed a few weeks ago and just finished making last night. Once we get our (real live) tree I will take a better picture, but for now I thought I'd show ya what it looks like.

The fabric for this came from FabricLand. I'm not sure what the fabric line is called... and I've already cut off and thrown away the selvages.

Binding the inside corners of this thing was a big pain in the butt. I thought I was making it easier by making it a square cut out, but now I'm thinking a circle would have been much easier.

I quilted it myself on my Pfaff... so don't look too closely at the quilting. ;-)

If you're going to be in the Abbotsford area this weekend you should stop in at Andrea and Kim's Christmas open house. I was there last year and it was amazing! They are a couple of very creative chicks with lots and lots of gorgeous stuff to sell. You can see all the details about when & where on their blogs.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (New Living Translation)
